  • Here's a close-up look at a Pennsylvania jagged ambush bug (Phymata pennsylvanica) as it blends in and waits for prey on an Early Sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides). You can see the straw-like proboscis it sticks into its prey, folded up against its lower thorax, and the praying mantis-like front legs that do such a great job snaring its victims, which can be over twice its size.
