The Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina) is a common but unobtrusive little sparrow that you can often find in small groups hopping about your yard, searching for small seeds and insects. This colorful rufus-capped male has been caught in a quiet moment on a lichen covered twig. A bright maple tree flower blooms out of focus in the background, showing its springtime colors.
