Captive Leaf

Captive leaf

A fresh, powdery snow fell overnight, leaving a soft layer of clean over everything. All the old tracks and odd bits of nature in the yard now covered over, pristine and clean again. My camera begged to be taken out, wanting to discover everything anew.

As I wandered, this leaf captured my eye - the graceful lines of leaf and shadow; the warmth of the leaf against the cold of the snow; the textures of veins and flakes; the contrast of sharp needle-like points on the Northern Pin Oak leaf (Quercus ellipsoidalis) against the soft granules of snow.

I laid down to get nice and close; working with the image in my mind, then in the viewfinder.

... a nice reminder of a pleasant winter walk.
